Dr. Rodney Chan

PGY-2 | TMU | Psychiatry

  • Bio
    Hi everyone,

My name is Rodney and I am running for re-election to the PARO GC as your RCPSC rep!

Being part of our local site's inaugural year was a rewarding experience; I got to connect with many new faces and help organize events in my role as social lead. I was also able to advocate for resident voices as a voting member on our PGME council, acting as a liaison to the administrative body for both program and site related issues.

As TMU continues to rapidly expand, we will continue to face new challenges, and having a consistent, informed voice at the table has never been more important. We are also heading into a season of contract negotiations, and I hope to continue serving as your voice for another year to spread awareness about compensation, working conditions, and wellness matters.

Moving forward, I'd like to focus my advocacy work on establishing moonlighting opportunities via restricted registration, bringing us in parity with other Ontario residents.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy exploring local cuisines, travelling, and window shopping at Square One.

I highly encourage everyone interested in running to give it a shot and let me know if you have any questions! Thank you!

Dr. Blossom Dharmaraj

PGY-1 | TMU | Anaesthesia

  • Bio
    Hello everyone!

My name is Blossom Dharmaraj, and I am a first year Anesthesiology resident at Toronto Metropolitan University. I am excited to run for PARO General Council.

Throughout medical school, I was fortunate to be elected by my peers to serve on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students as Ontario Regional Director and on the Executive Board of the Ontario Medical Students Association. Being elected to these positions gave me the opportunity to advocate for learners at both the provincial and national levels while working alongside students, faculty, and healthcare leaders to improve the learner experience. These roles taught me how to navigate governance and ensure learner concerns translate into meaningful action. If elected, I look forward to using this governance experience to advocate for resident, and help ensure that resident voices are meaningfully represented in decisions that impact PGME training across Ontario.

I am excited to represent our community as a resident at TMU. As one of Ontario's newest residency programs, we have a unique opportunity to bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and the voices of residents who are helping build a program from the ground up. I believe this perspective is valuable on the PARO council. I am eager to ensure that all residents are heard while contributing to discussions that shape the future of residency training in Ontario.

If elected to PARO General Council, I will be an approachable, collaborative, and engaged representative who values transparency and communication. I am committed to advocating for resident wellness, equitable opportunities, and strong representation on the issues that matter most to residents.

Thank you for taking the time to read my nomination. I am excited about the opportunity to represent our resident community. If you have any questions, ideas, or issues you would like to see PARO address, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Dr. Jemeela Thomas

PGY-2 | TMU | Paediatrics

  • Bio
    Hi everyone!

If we've already met, hello again! If not, I'm Jemeela, a second-year Pediatrics resident running to be one of the PARO GC RCPSC reps.

Throughout my years as a learner, I've come to believe that medical training is not only about becoming a skilled clinician, but also about showing up as a leader, advocate, and teammate. If we've ever interacted, you know that I'm always looking for opportunities to meaningfully engage with my peers and contribute to a culture that prioritizes resident wellness, inclusion, compassion, and growth.

Throughout medical school and now into residency, I have remained involved in initiatives that reflect these values, including resident wellness, mentorship, and equity-focused programming. Coming from a very small residency cohort, I've especially enjoyed collaborating on projects that support underrepresented learners and build bridges between trainees and leadership. My hope in all of these efforts is to ensure that others feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive, not just survive.

I am also deeply committed to clinical excellence, lifelong learning, and holistic, patient-centered care. Residency has further solidified my belief in the power of listening, collaborating, and meeting people where they are. With that, I am 100% committed to listening to you and advocating for you, whether that means representing your voice, organizing programming, or sharing important information. My goal is to help set up both current and future residents for success and to ensure our learner community continues to grow stronger together.

Thank you for considering my nomination!

Dr. Riva Patel

PGY-1 | TMU | Int.Med-General

  • Bio
    Hello everyone!

My name is Riva Patel, I'm a PGY1 Internal Medicine resident at Toronto Metropolitan University, and I'm excited to be running for PARO General Council this year!

One of the things I've always enjoyed most is bringing people together and finding practical ways to make things better. Whether it was co-founding a small business with my sister, leading community health initiatives to improve health literacy, mentoring pre-medical and medical students, or working on research to improve care for vulnerable populations, I've learned that meaningful change starts with listening. The best ideas often come from people experiencing challenges firsthand, and real progress happens when those voices are heard.

Joining TMU has been especially exciting because we're helping build something new. As residents in one of Ontario's newest programs, we have a unique opportunity to shape the culture and future of our training environment. That also means we need strong, approachable representatives who will advocate for residents while keeping communication open and action-oriented.

Leadership and advocacy have been central to my journey long before residency, and I hope to bring those experiences to PARO to advocate thoughtfully and effectively on behalf of our residents. Whether it's tackling larger systemic issues or addressing the everyday challenges that affect our training and well-bring, I want to ensure your voices are heard and represented.

The strongest resident community is one where everyone knows they have someone in their corner. I'd be honoured to earn your vote and represent our resident community on PARO General Council. I promise to be the kind of representative who is approachable, engaged, and committed to turning your ideas and concerns into meaningful action.

Dr. Anmol Krishna

PGY-2 | TMU | Emergency Medicine

  • Bio
Hey everyone! My name is Anmol, and I am a PGY2 resident in the Emergency Medicine program at TMU. I am excited to put my name forward for a position on the PARO Council, representing our residency collective cohort.

The future of medical education is built by the residents training in it today. As some of the first residents at TMU, we have the privilege and responsibility of helping shape what that future looks like.

I am running because TMU residents deserve a strong voice as our programs continue to grow. My goal is simple: make it easier to be a resident at TMU.

Being part of a new medical school has given me a unique perspective on building residency training. We have the opportunity to shape our culture and create a program that reflects the needs of its residents. I believe the strongest programs are built when residents are involved in the decisions that affect their training.

If elected, I want to focus on the everyday experiences of residency. I want to identify challenges that make training more difficult than it needs to be and work toward changes that allow residents to spend more time learning and enjoying their training experience.

I want to turn resident feedback into action by strengthening the connection between TMU residents and PARO. Representation should involve ongoing conversations with residents and meaningful follow-up on the issues that matter most.

I will work to represent every resident, not just the loudest voices. TMU is a growing community with residents who bring different perspectives and experiences. Every resident should have the opportunity to contribute to the institution we are building.

Finally, I hope to leave residency better than we found it. By bringing TMU’s perspective to PARO and learning from residents across Ontario, I want to help create a training experience that supports residents today and those who follow.

Together, we can build a postgraduate medical education program that TMU residents are proud to be part of. Thank you for your support and for the opportunity to represent our residency community!
